2011 Food Vendors

Food vending at Seattle Hempfest
Grubbin’ Grove

Food applications for 2011 will be accepted in Spring of 2011. Stay tuned for a date!

Food Jury Process
Due to the limited number of spaces for food vendors at Seattle Hempfest, plus the large number of new food applications that we get each year, food vending is a "juried" process. The Seattle Hempfest food vending jury will meet and decide which food vendors to select for each year. Once selected, an Hempfest account will be created for those selected food vendors. Once the food vendor gets the invite email, they will log onto hempfest.org and purchase their food booth on-line. Payments must be recieved immediatly.

Food Vending Requirements

The following is required to be a food vendor at Hempfest:

• Proof of Insurance
• Temporary Food Service Permit – Issued on site by a King County Health Inspector.
• Fire Department Permit for LPG (propane) and/or open flame (charcoal, wood)

Additionally, food vendors cooking with propane, oil, etc. are required to have fire extinguishers. For oil, a special Class K fire extinguisher is required.

For more information on the fire permit requirements, or to download a permit application, please visit Seattle Fire Marshal's Special Events web page.

Food Vendors Rules and Regulations

• A Beverage License must be purchased to sell beverages. Specialty drinks only, no bottled, canned, or prepackaged beverages permitted.

ATTENTION Hempfest Food Vendors
Hempfest is going PVC Free.
No Plastic Bottles. No Toxics 4 Food. No more Waste Exports to Oregon.

Seattle Hempfest has a waste Problem. One is the volume we create and the other being infrastructure and personnel. Our recovery rate for the last 5 years is about 35% to 45%.

Food Vending is Hempfest's single largest single source of waste, both by volume and by weight.

This has to change. Seattle Hempfest launched Ecology in 2008 to address this problem. The only way to survive as a special event is, in one word, Sustainability. We must reduce our waste stream. All of us are in this together and as a consequence all of us are responsible for the solutions.
This year Hempfest will compost ALL FOOD WASTE generated at Myrtle Edwards.

All Food Vendors must use Bio-Wares or approved alternatives from Ecology. This is most important! Because this simple effort will enable Hempfest to divert 120+ cubic yards of Waste from export to Oregon.

Hempfest Ecology has Bio-Ware supplies available for purchase before (preferred) Hempfest . Purchase during the event will be possible, but more expensive. Food Vendors are encouraged to contact Ecology about needs and questions. We are committed to promoting a smooth transition and welcome your input. There are options available for Food Vendors other than Bio-Wares. Hempfest Ecology has a guideline for except able alternatives, this will be included with your Vendor package.

In addition to our composting efforts we will be asking all Vendors to sort their own “waste” which will be picked up on Saturday and Sunday nights after the public has left Myrtle Edwards Park. Again guidelines will be included and a contact available to answer any questions.

Seattle Hempfest is the largest event of its “kind” in the world, and as a consequence generates an enormous amount of waste in a very short time period. Ecology/Recycling crews in the past years have been challenged by the sheer volume and we can't do it alone. We need ALL VENDORS to help during Hempfest to ensure that we will be return in 2011.

Thank You for your efforts,
MikEco
