Seattle Hempfest happens thanks to a volunteer core staff of one hundred twenty (120) working year-round and an additional one thousand (1,000) volunteering through the week of our event. Over forty distinct crews synergize to produce the largest pot rally on the planet. The energy created by this activist family is amazing, and we invite you to be a part of it!

Seattle Hempfest Public Crews

The following crews accept general volunteers. Most of our crews are small families, and over the years many of our public crews transform into internal crews when they reach adequate, competent staffing levels. We encourage new volunteers to pick a few crews your first year, with an eye to finding your "sweet spot" -- that one crew in which you find joy and function well.

Ambiance

Decorate Hempfest from head to toe! Help set up artwork, ambiance, and other sparkly stuff. Crew needs: 4 volunteers per shift, 5 shifts total, 20 volunteers needed.

Canopies

Piece together the stockpile of canopies under which we place our infrastructure. Who knew one could have so much fun settin' up ten by twenties? Crew needs: 16 volunteers per shift, 7 shifts total, 112 volunteers needed.

Construction

In a few days, Hempfest is built from the ground up. Fencing is placed, stages are constructed, zip ties and duct tape abound. Construction skills encouraged, and some lifting required. Crew needs: 40 volunteers per shift, 6 shifts total, 240 volunteers needed.

Deconstruction

Wow, that was a fun Hempfest. Now let's bring it all down! Down with the stages, down with the fences, down with prohibition! Crew needs: 30 volunteers per shift, 4 shifts total, 120 volunteers needed.

Ecology

Help clean the park before, during and after the event. Thanks to our ecology crew, Seattle Hempfest has a long history of leaving Myrtle Edwards Park cleaner than we found it. Crew needs: 18 volunteers per shift, 15 shifts total, 270 volunteers needed.

Greeters

Greeters stand at the entrances, distribute programs and convince folks to kick down for the cause. A good chunk of our budget comes from donation buckets, and we need extroverts at the gates helping earn our keep. Crew needs: 15 volunteers per shift, 4 shifts total, 60 volunteers needed.

Hemposium Display

Next to Hemposium is a tent that houses a hemp products display. A good spot for industrial hemp smarties. Crew needs: 3 volunteers per shift, 7 shifts total, 21 volunteers needed.

Hempstory Booth

Staff the Hempstory booth, which houses treasured items from Hempfest's past. It is near Hemposium, the first stage in the park. Crew needs: 2-3 volunteers per shift, 6 shifts total, 16 volunteers needed.

Hydration

Set up water and coffee stations. Keep water and coffee flowing for your fellow vollies. The coffee must flow. Crew needs: 2-10 volunteers per shift, 17 shifts total, 66 volunteers needed.

Info Booths

Chill out in a chair under a canopy, answer questions, give directions, and hand out literature. "Honeybuckets that way, man." Crew needs: 8 volunteers per shift, 6 shifts total, 48 volunteers needed.

Load Out

Coordinate a smooth exit from the park after Hempfest, protect the turf from vehicles, make sure we leave no trace. Crew needs: 15-30 volunteers per shift, 6 shifts total, 150 volunteers needed.

Night Security

Stay awake through the wee hours of the night, watching over equipment, infrastructure, and each other. Coffee provided. :) Crew needs: 10-20 volunteers per shift, 10 shifts total, 150 volunteers needed.

Sign Hanging

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. Stop wondering how they got placed, and start placing them! A good eye for sign placement and ability to read a map are welcome qualities on this crew. Crew needs: 4-10 volunteers per shift, 7 shifts total, 44 volunteers needed.

Sign Language Interpreters

Hempfest loves certified ASL interpreters. For many years our ASL crew has interpreted our speakers (and sometimes the music) for our hearing impaired family members. Crew needs: 6 volunteers per shift, 4 shifts total, 24 volunteers needed.

Sweep

All hands on deck! Create a human chain the width of the park and sweep out the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Crew needs: 40 volunteers per shift, 2 shifts total, 80 volunteers needed.

Traffic

Keep vehicles moving in the right direction. Traffic crew secures our north and south gates, staffs the far north cueing area, and controls vendor and delivery traffic inside the park. For the most part, they answer map questions and protect park turf from bad drivers. Bonus points for certified traffic flaggers. Bikes welcome. Crew needs: 2-22 volunteers per shift, 26 shifts total, 212 volunteers needed.

Vendor Ground Crew

"Welcome, your booth is over there." Help vendors find their way, give 'em a little Hempfest love and a smile. Crew needs: 12-15 volunteers per shift, 6 shifts total, 81 volunteers needed.

Voter Registration

Crew needs: 2 volunteers per shift, 4 shifts total, 8 volunteers needed.
