Mission Statement

Seattle Hempfest is dedicated to the preservation/restoration of our global environment as well as our vital American civil liberties, and to seeking medical and economic justice for all people.

Seattle Hempfest exists to educate the public in regard to the historical, industrial and medicinal uses of Hemp/Marijuana, and to advocate for the reform of all intrusive laws, regulations and ordinances which seek to prohibit free adults from taking advantage of the myriad of positive uses of all varieties of the Marijuana plant.

Who/What/Where

View from the stage in 1995 Washington Citizens for Hemp Reform promotes these causes through the production of one of the country's largest and most effective political celebrations of freedom: Seattle Hempfest. 60,000 people (Seattle Parks Dept. estimate) gathered peacefully in Myrtle Edwards Park in 1995 for the 5th Annual Seattle Hempfest, which featured internationally recognized activists, political organizations, over 100 booths featuring hemp related merchandise, and premier local musical acts. Organizers took 1996 off to produce and distribute the first ever statewide Hemp Voters Guide.

As the national decriminalization movement has grown in sophistication and popular support, it is the intention of Seattle Hempfest to produce in 1997 an unprecedented political event, both in size and in content.

Seattle Hempfest has so far received national media attention from USA Weekend, MTV News, CNN, Pulse, Spin, HighTimes, as well as most major regional publications and broadcast media (clippings available upon request).

Taking the word to the people in 1995Guest Speakers who have appeared at Hempfest include Jack Herer (author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes), Dennis Peron (founder of the San Francisco Buyer's Club and driving force behind the California Medical Marijuana Initiative), Chris Conrad (author of Hemp: Lifeline To The Future), Anthony Clark (producer of The Hemp Revolution movie), Joanna McKee (founder of Green Cross Patient Coop), Elvy Musica (a recipient of legal government issued medical marijuana), Peter Gorman (editor of High Times magazine), and many more.

Seattle Hempfest has won three national awards for donated promotional graphic design by noted artists Art Chantry and Jamie Sheehan, and posters from the '94 and '95 Hempfest are sold as collectors items by national distributors .

The view from the stage in 19951997 promises to be a pivotal year for both Hempfest, and the national decriminalization movement. It is our hope that you will choose to support us in our efforts to gain momentum in our quest for sane, compassionate and just legislation that will eliminate the oppressive laws that currently deny the diseased and ill relief from suffering, incarcerate thousands of gentle and productive Americans, and prevent the economic and environmental benefits from domestic industrial Hemp production.

It is past time for a change. With your help we can all play a role in democracy, justice and freedom.
